One of the owners told me they have a couple restaurants in Tennessee and decided to venture this way and grab a piece of the dining dollar pie. They must be successful down there as they sure spent some dollars on the building décor and signage unlike most small Mexican joints (i.e. the places I typically like best).
Though it would be weird, this place should be BYOC (chips). The chips were served warm but didn’t have much flavor or salt. Completely uninspired. The salsa was mild but flavorful. A cheese sauce that the owner said we wouldn’t be able to stop eating sat idle after maybe 3-4 dips. It’s supposedly a mixture of Land O’ Lakes cheese, jalapeño, and spices. Whatever.
A steak burrito isn’t explicitly offered in the menu, only chicken, beef, and bean. They range in price from $2.70 for the bean to $3.50 for the chicken. I was charged $4.99 for steak. As you can see from the picture, the burrito arrived looking like a bloody section of forearm covered in bubbling pus. Upon cutting into this grotesque appendage, it was apparent that only steak was contained therein. The steak did have excellent flavor and quality but alas, it was not enough to save this burrito from a sub-par ranking. Note the cost per ounce was extremely high as well.
La Quesadilla probably has some good menu items, but I’m not willing to explore them. Probably unlike Tennessee, there are far too many better places in the area. If you want a good dining experience and are looking for a varied menu, Don Pedro just a few miles north on 41 comes highly recommended. If you want a solid steak burrito and good chips and salsa (and everything else for that matter), go to El Amigo. They just got new signage to boot.
