It seems odd to me that chips and salsa are not available at Los Comales. I don’t just mean that they weren’t served up before my burrito arrived, but they are not even listed on the menu (although guacamole is for $3.99). Each table does however have a two-gallon tub of pickled cauliflower and carrots for your enjoyment if you so desire. I did not. Even so, apparently this place is a favorite among the Mexican locals as it was very crowded and I was the only non-Hispanic guy in the place.
My burrito was delivered within 3 minutes of ordering and was cut in half. I was extremely hungry and ate half before I snapped a pic (lest you think you only get half a burrito for your money). It contained beans, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. You can get cheese, avocado, or additional sour cream for 50¢ each. I found the steak flavor good but not in great quantity. There were two pieces of gristle and one had to be spit out. The green and the red salsas were both very good and added to the flavor of the burrito. Too bad I couldn’t try them out on some chips.
Taqueria Los Comales is about average for a steak burrito. Looking throughout the dining room at what my fellow patrons were eating leads me to believe this place is best for ordering tacos or a dinner platter. If you visit, I suggest you do the same.
